Homebrew & Chili Fest

My friend asked my about homebrew for a beer & chili fest.

What is the best beer complement for chili? I honestly have no clue.

If the chilli is good and hot, I'd say something on the lighter side (hefe, cream ale, a good pils), maybe even fruity. Since chilli is normally considered a pretty "hearty" meal I don't think you would want a filling beer like porter or stout, and I don't think the bite of an IPA would help sooth the burn.

I think a good milk stout would be great with a bowl of chili on a cold day!

IPA is great, but probably not with chili.

I would think that something on the malty side, to balance the acid of the chili?
