Most Home Depots I've been to have a little stand near the exit with prepaid envelopes and test tubes to send your water off for a free sample. While I know they're looking to sell you a water treatment kit of some kind, I was wondering if they do any type of water report.

My tap water tastes pretty good and I have no complaints, and I have certainly no interest in any treatment options, but I was wondering if anyone else has done this and if they got any meaningful data back useful for brewing?

I picked one of these up a few years ago, did a little google research and decided it a BS scam to sell you a water treatment system. High pressure ridiculous sales tactics etc etc....

I believe they test for contaminants not valuable brewing info imo.

I've done it just to see... they just give you total dissolved solids. Not really helpful for brewing.

My wife signed up for someone to come by our house and do the "test". Basically all they did was a TDS test, hardness test and a chlorine test.

They were trying to sell a waaaaay overpriced water softener system. One of their gimmicks was to filter your tap water through their filter media and try to show you how much better it tasted. Funny thing was it was tasted worse than the pool water we get from the tap!
