Wasn't a verbatim quote my friend. I didn't intend to make it seem as though that was actually what you said, apologies. By substitute, I meant growlers, not another beer. It's always been cans in there, like why? Then again, I see a lot of pics in there of dudes drinking cans that are easily pushing a month, so maybe the want maxxx storage? Who the hell knows anymore.

Shaun Hill is easily the best namer in the world. There's honestly no one else remotely in his class, in my estimation. These names are so much better than anything else I've read, in their styles, and this is true across so many different types of names. It's just unbelievable the degree to which I enjoy these names more than other representations of the same style. I don't say this lightly either. It would be convenient if I didn't need to drive a thousand miles for my favorite names, but that's just the reality of the situation.

I won't comment on hype, but besides environmental impact, growlers have zero advantages over cans. I don't get this argument at all.

Getting waved through with 24 declared cans at the border = 8.520 Litres of tax-free HF Beer

Getting waved through with 24 declared "bottles" at the border = Up to 48 potential Litres of tax-free HF beer*

i know MA is kind of a different beast with the stupid label laws, but Night Shift got rid of growlers entirely and I believe it's been a huge plus for both the brewery and the consumer.

I've honestly never understood why people get growlers of things available in cans. Most of my experience on this is at Trillium, but growler prices and can prices are the same per oz, and you don't have to drink 32 or 64 oz at once!

Cans are cheaper at HF - DG $20 for 67.63 oz in growlers or $18 for 72 oz in cans. Cans are waaaaay cheaper if you get a 750 fill and this isn't even counting non-refundable glass.

I'm a can proponent, usually due to cost and ease of use. Once summer rolls around, who wants to lug growlers to the beach/golf course/strip club....

Right, I'm a can proponent too and I totally agree that for the drinker, it's a win-win-win; the only possible reason I want growlers over cans is perhaps a belief the beer is fresher, and, well, at HF, I know I don't have to worry about that.

But from the brewery perspective, there are some downsides, right?

2) Do you own a canning line? (HF is still doing mobile, right?)

I think cans should be cheaper?

canning line and people to man it = $$$ but you save:
Keg costs
Cleaning keg costs
workers pouring growlers
beer loss while pouring growlers (HF is much MUCH better at this though than most)
all dat glass lying around the brewery

I also believe that they have to be selling way more volume with cans, as if someone comes up and is in kind of a hurry, they don't need to wait for growlers. By making the cans cheaper, HF is incentivizing this to a point.

Night Shift just actually dropped the price of their core 4-packs, so something has gotta be working $$$ wise with the no growler thing.

definitely.. so i go up to quebec a few times a year, when i can i come back into the states to hit hF then back into quebec... one time... coming back... do you have any alcohol... yes... i have a case... where ya coming from hill farmstead.. me... yep.. they have them big bottles don't they.... needless to say they searched found my supply and denied me entry.. had to find a nice lady at the circle k to hold my saisons for a few days... cool lady

end story... no more than 8.5lt per person for me anymore.... after that incident my license plate must have gotten a flag bc each boarder crossing after that i got searched... new car... new license plate.. no problems

Didn't know there was such a hard limit in Canada. In Mexico there's a limit that's untaxed and then you can bring more over the limit if you pay the tax.

Same for us actually, depends on how long you've been gone. In & out type thing is 9L with tax but if you were out of the country for at least 48h it's double and you pay tax on half

Ranges. We get 8.5 litres tax-free after 48 hours or so in the US. Depending on the province you're crossing into you may or may not bring additional bottles, etc after paying tax. Quebec is known for having the strictest/shittiest alcohol import laws due to it being the birthplace of Celine Dion or some ****.

I had 2 HF boxes filled of 750s and some 500mls and another random box of cans. The two cases were obviously beer but the cans were less obvious in just a closed cardboard box

Good to know for the future, but on the spot I wasn’t gonna try and convert anything — I literally just blurted out without thinking

Don't believe gin soigne has made an appearance before, but I could be wrong.
