Mt. Pisgah is my favorite short hike near Parker Pie. The payoff to effort ratio is pretty high.

Thank you for this last minute rec!

Most of it is trail runnable, if you're into that kinda thing.

Across the street from the trailhead(unmarked) is a steep trail down to the water. It's magical on a hot day. Crystal clear water. Pictures do it no justice.

I'm looking for a share the friday before FoFA, I'm staying near Waterbury with a friend. I wonder how close that shotlord manor is

I'm staying at Stagecoach. No set plans, but bottles will be opened at some point I assume. Nothing crazy though as I like to feel like myself for the festival. Do enjoy hitting the Waterbury trifecta that night as well.

Semi-related note - I have a tradition of going for a run the morning before FoFA. Will be along the gorgeous Route 100 again this year. I'm in a marathon schedule and shifting my long run to Friday, so Saturday will be an easy pace, 7-8 miles, out to about a mile or so past the Cabot store and back for some Huevos. Hilly on the way out but easier on the way back. One of my favorite runs of the year. PM if interested in joining for all or some of it.

Love this area too. Another fun hike close by is just off of Long Pond--Bald Mtn. Fire tower at the top with crazy views.

It's maybe the best flat water paddling in the state. You can tell from Gene's picture how shallow it is around the edges, but once you're out it is so clear and so deep. It's extremely disorienting on a paddle board, but in a good way.

Any rentals nearby (paddle board or kayak)?

Hey folks, I'm planning a late September early October east coast trip. Will that be plenty of time before the leaf peepers, or leepers, leaf tree people?

it really varies from year to year but if memory serves me well, Columbus Day Weekend is usually near the end and height of foliage season... it's a great time to enjoy VT... but prepare for crowds in the Waterbury/Stowe area

Maybe at the south end, where there's camping and I think a general store, we have our own so I never really looked. I don't think there's any sort of state run rental at the beach. Definitely not at the north end anyway.

There are also some fairly accurate foliage trackers online.

Cool I'll reach that week and we can figure something out.
I'm also on a Marathon schedule, but I'm thinking about doing my miles before I leave on Friday, but maybe I'll change my mind.

funny though I've been looking for rooms possibly heading up the weekend of like October 21 and everything seems crazy expensive for some reason maybe anticipating leaves still available at that time. maybe rates will drop a little bit as it gets closer and leaves fall off the tree LOL

That brewerie is killing it right now, they recently released a nice BA sour in collaboration with some friends of mine... Food is excellent too. They are located down the street from an awesome ski resort if you happen to go in the winter

I might try and swing north of the border in Sept while up there, cheers.

If I may...While I wholly agree about the beauty of RT 100, it's a really dangerous stretch of roadway. No shoulders and significant traffic really wouldn't make this a peaceful run for anyone. You could take Winooski St down to River Rd and follow the river to Camels Hump road and back. That's just over 8 miles, way more relaxed and safer...Just a suggestion. Max would want you back in one piece for your huevos and bacon...
