as a guy from IN who has been to hilly farmstead 1 time ever....

assuming they can actually enforce this new rule (which is sort of doubtful i guess), are there enough people that get to HF on a regular basis to buy all these beers at 1/per?
I guess they can raise the limit on things too...

highly possible i could be wrong because i'm "not from around there", but in my head it's the same few hundred people that can get up there semi-frequently (probably fewer if they can't grab a case of rare loot)...
Things like CD11 that have less bottles will be 1/pp whereas (I think) releases like Sue or Norma will still be 3-4/pp. It'll, I think, just be the same limits he had been setting but they'll be per-release instead of per-day. I don't think every barrel aged release will now be 1/pp (and if so, I'll be sad).

I'm guessing based on previous releases they won't have any problem selling out in a week or a couple of weeks at most, because the main impact here is likely going to be on people scoring 3x or 4x per person beers on both Wednesday and Thursday (which I'll certainly admit to having done).

It would be kind of funny though if the last few bottles of something fairly expensive like CD11 sat around for a while simply because all the semi-regulars you mention already got it, and none of say, the local/tourist crowd who go in for growler fills were interested in dropping $35 for a 750ml saison.

do you guys really think that someone who's built such a successful business would set themselves up to not be able to sell the amount of beer they want to sell?
I actually think the new policy has potential to make them more money. If you assume that this policy will allow more people to get limited bottles, that means there could be more people making the trip to HF. With more people likely means more growler and regular saison sales. If the same people are getting numerous allocations of the limited releases, they're probably less likely to buy a lot of growlers or saisons the second time around.

This is probably pretty spot on. Wasn't it just a week or two ago when there were no/barely any bottles for sale and people were reporting low crowds, no lines, getting multiple fills, etc.? Conversely, you have the Flora Blue/Black release. Bottle selection seems to correlate pretty directly with traffic.

But doesn't smaller limits have the potential to make people not even bother with making the trip too?

precisely... it's a good way of getting a steady stream instead of record breaking numbers followed by slow weeks

not if you can go up for 1 bottle of CD11 and say 4 BOT and a case of saison... now you have releases overlapping which was what happened for Flora... but if you can stretch that scenario... you have more people getting less bottles but still getting something special

True but I still do think some people will say "I can't get x # bottles of this special release so it isn't worth going up for. It may only be a small handful of people though. I'm just bored at work and trying to kill some time with random speculation.

They can enforce it through their POS system they have, as they require a name and credit card (and I would assume an ID if paying cash).

In terms of selling out their limited releases at 1pp, yes, enough people get there for this to happen quickly.

I think it's how OsLovesBeer put it. If all they had today was CD11 or something similar, you'd probably be right. I remember it was like that around the initial Prolegomena release. I didn't bother making the trip because all I would have been looking at was something like 1 Prolegomena, 2 Elaborative #1s, and a handful of growler fills. Now that they have case limit+ saisons pretty regularly, you know you're walking out with enough quantity where 1-2 marginal bottles of a limited release aren't going to hold someone back.

My wife goes over almost as much as I do and yesterday was the first time they put her in the system. So it looks like they're taking the new policy pretty seriously. How long it will take to sell through these now is an interesting question. It's not just unique visits, it's unique visits willing to pay $35 for a single bottle, in this instance anyway.

This was a harmless-if-unoriginal April Fool's prank by HF today on Facebook, but I'll be damned if those cans don't look sexy as ****:

So many people are saying that, but I think those cans look like pure garbage. Is there something wrong with me? Maybe the reality distortion field isn't working at full strength today.

I love how clean they look, especially the Edward can. Thinking about it a bit more critically the other 3 are nothing great (Abner looks nice enough but the wine glass doesn't stand out enough against the metallic red) but that Edward is just pure awesomeness to my eyes. The way the logo pops off the metallic white background is perfect.

I'll be opening one of mine either tonight or in the coming days, will report back.

Anyone open a Phenomenology of Spirit lately? Just found one in the cellar, thought I'd drank all of mine.

in either case, I hope it lasts a while. I'm hoping to be up next Saturday and/or the following...

Yeah that's honestly probably the best idea with CD12/13/birth in the pipeline...you'll almost certainly get one if not more...I just got invited on a cannonball run on wednesday and I'm realllyyy thinking about taking a sick day.

I think 11 is the one I want but my schedule won't allow me to get up there any sooner than next Saturday

Had one at a Wrestlemania bottle share last weekend, and it was niiiiiiice. We opened the bottle during the Undertaker's match, which, if you're a WWE fan, was totally appropriate.
