Last year it was 2 on the first day and dropped to 1/pp on the second day. Oddly enough, it's not as if people were flocking there on the 1st day given the snowstorm that was taking place at that time.

Thanks DmouthCaliBrewz for sharing the new Norma with me today. It tastes fantastic right out of the gate! Get one if you can. I really like this batch a lot more than fresh '12 norma, the '13 is already amazing.

Perhaps I'm being ornery here, but can we use the commonly accepted naming conventions for beer for Norma too, please? There's no particular reason Norma is special. Yes, maybe it's confusing because of how the bottles are labeled, but I see no reason to defer to Shaun on this one, and would like to call it what it is.

Norma released in 2014 is 2014 Norma. Norma released in 2013 is 2013 Norma. Just like BA Dark Lord released in 2013 is 2013 BA Dark Lord, not 2012 BA Dark Lord or whenever it was brewed.

If you bottled it in 2012 and aged it for 2 years in your cellar before release and want to call it 2012, whatever. I'm not going to throw a hissy fit. But this isn't that.

2012 Norma was brewed in March of 2012 and released exactly one year later. Label says 2012 coinciding with the brew year. Not confusing to me. Today's bottles say 2013. I'm going my what the label says, not the year it was released. I get your point.

I'm not confused.

As for comparisons. I had a 2012 3 weeks ago and a 2013 today. 2012 is maybe a bit dryer and more lemon tartness. But this years is way better fresh than last years fresh bottle. It's gonna be hard sitting on this one

It doesn't confuse me, per se, and I understand that's what the label says. I just don't understand why for this one beer we refer to its years this way and for every single other beer, pretty much, we do it the other way. I think that's really stupid. But yeah, wasn't a comment about you - just a comment in general.

I'll take off my fanboy hat and agree with you. Every HFS label says "bottled on" as far as coding. Only Norma had a brewed on vintage. So even the most HFS lovers get confused as Norma is different than the normal dating convention.

So I don't disagree but it's obviously intentional Norma is vintage date and not bottled date.

Shaun's decision I guess.

Right. I agree. And I think it's a dumb decision. If you want to change all of your annual beer release dates to that format, fine. But why do it different ways?

I guess actually to be fair, the only two regularly "scheduled" released BA beers are Norma and BoT, right - and I don't know how long BoT stays in barrels, but given when it's released, I guess it's likely BoT released fall 2013 is brewed in 2013.

But then I guess I'd ask Shaun why he has to be so different, because it's just annoying.

To get even dumber, I didn't even realize that was the case, having even commented and asking how the '13 was drinking compared to the '12. Even forgot we were in '14.

Whether it confuses hardcore HF followers like those in this thread isn't so much the problem, because people meeting that description are unlikely to be confused by something like that. It goes against long-established industry standards for no particularly good reason. Why do that? It's just going to lead to at least a set of parentheses every time someone mentions a vintage of these beers in conversation.

Because it's metal!...oh wait, wrong brewery.

I think it's the brew date because Norma is brewed on the day of his grandmothers passing, correct? Probably a tribute to that date every year.

I'm pretty positive that is exactly why it is labeled based on the prior year, although it is still confusing either way. For my purposes, I just refer to them by batch number and don't pay attention to the bottle year mumbo jumbo.

still want it.

Rodenbach Grand Cru is just as good if not better. At least when we tasted them side by side last July. Prolegomena had more overall acidity and dryness, but the grand cru had this fantastic sweet cherry mote that helped make a more balanced final product. Just my two cents. I'd drink it again, but there is no reason to hunt for it.

:grins: i grab Rodenbach Grand Cru pretty regularly that explanation will probably quell the gotta catch them all in me for a bit... maaaybe

Just looked at the tap list for the first time in a few days. Holy ****. Stupid good. I've missed Susan.
