If I'm paying those prices for those cheeses to a company that speaks to a need to preserve the soils of the farmstead, I'd prefer that they at least treat both their employees and cows a bit better. But that's just me.

Are you talking about Jasper Hill, or Costco? I've never really heard much complaints about the conditions at Jasper and I deal with industry people on a daily basis.

Costco is actually supposed to be pretty good to its employees as far as big box retailers go too

Jasper. Multi-million dollar 30+ employee company with no health insurance offered to employees, infrequently pastured and grain-fed cows (instead of free-range, grass fed), and so on.

Putting that in the context of their professed commitments to the geographic area and people...

Stuff like that surely doesn't matter to everyone. But it's certainly a point of contention for me (and on the flip side, one of the reasons I so highly regard and respect Hill Farmstead...).

Anyone open their CD8 yet? I usually give bottle-conditioned beers 2-3 weeks upright in the basement before opening.

Future request to see if anyone buys Arthur / Daybreak today and opens one up. I loved the first daybreak (non orange liqueur)

Went down my hill to grab a sandwich and my plow guy told me tomorrow is going to be really rough weather. 6-12 inches of slushy nasty **** with 30MPH winds. If you're driving up I-91 toward HFS tomorrow, be super careful north of hanover / white river junction.

Yes to this!

You might get stuck, as the roads are pretty "rural". If you're really unlucky Shaun will help you get back on the road, and that is when all hell breaks loose.

Is there any route that's the "least" precarious?

So who thinks Abner washed clothbound cheddar would be a great idea?

Washed-rind cheddar is not a thing. Wouldn't be cheddar anymore. That would be a really effing odd cheese.

EDIT: This was not really right. I suppose one could make a washed rind cheddar and call it cheddar. It just wouldn't taste like cheddar.. I wouldn't think. Does anything commercial like this exist?

20th in line 19 bottles of CD8 left. You do the math

I got the third to last CD8 today. I believe I talked with Quackus a bunch, I'm awful with coordinating real people's names with online usernames. It's hard enough to remember real names for me. Being able to get a case of Arthur hurt the wallet, but it hurt so good.

Didn't see the FB post till tonight about Mimosa, thought people in line were kidding about that...then I saw the empty boxes of oranges and started to give into the hope. I'm already telling everyone I know (that's like six people, it takes a lot of time) not to plan anything for 2015 so they can mule for me.

Then, after leaving idyllic HF, Parker Pie was there to great me with awesome pizza and my friends Lou Pepe Gueuze and Lou Pepe Kriek. Well done boys, well done.

Sucks I had to miss work today, those stomach flus just come out of nowhere sometimes.

Also got to hang at Parker with a couple trading buddies in from Wisconsin which was awesome. I think they're both still 100% over on the other site, I need to recruit them over to here.

From Rt. 16, instead of making the left on Taylor Rd, I think when it's slippery you're better off coming in from the back by making a left on Main St towards East Hardwick, then after crossing the river, make a right onto E Church St. Then make the right onto Breezy Ave which later becomes E Craftsbury Rd. At the "Y", veer right onto Lauredon Ave, and at the next "Y" veer right again onto Baker Hill Rd. Stay left at the next "Y" (avoiding Swamp Rd). Finally make the right onto Hill Rd.

It's less complicated than it sounds. It helps if you have a GPS, and can select "alternate routes". Choose the one that cuts over to the left off Rt. 16 much earlier than Taylor Rd, and ends up wrapping in from the back. If your GPS tells you to turn right onto Country Club Rd, just skip that, stay straight until you hit Breeze Ave like I said, and make the right.

When it's slippery, this is a much easier route than trying to make it up Taylor Rd, and could potentially avoid a nice little winter stroll on your part.

One last question, which may sound silly, does HF ever close to customers as a result of the snow? I'm planning on heading up for opening tomorrow but am concerned that it may be a waste if they're closed.
