I know that FOMO is basically the name of the beer game these days, but the HF dumpster fire group is exceptional even by those standards. So much consternation over whether or not there will be a limited release every week, time invested trying to figure out the optimal days/times to get boxed sets, and so on. Maybe my perspective is just a lot different because I'm so far away and so every visit to HF feels pretty special and I'm stoked to get things like the shelf saisons. I just can't imagine approaching planning and taking trips to HF with the mentality lots of those people have.
Ah another benefit of having deleted Facebook, avoiding that aspect of sh!tlordery

While I agree that most of the people who bitch publicly about that stuff are annoying af, I can certainly empathize with their disappointment. Not the entitlement, mind you, but rather the ones who are simply voicing their disappointment. Maybe it's too fine of a line to deserve distinction, but I don't mind making it.

I have to imagine that the majority of people who visit HF as a destination are planning their trip weeks or months in advance. Taking time off work, and possibly away from their families. For someone in Boston (or further) to set a date for a day trip well in advance, spend 7+ hours in the car, to end up only having 2 pours at the tap room and an opportunity to grab their (albeit delicious / world class / transcendent) "shelfies" - I'm not going to get bent out of shape if they express disappointment that their trip didn't line up with a better set of retail offerings.

I've mostly stopped trying to trade for HF limited offerings. The people who have the most access to HF beers are the biggest homers in beer trading. It's ******* exhausting even starting a conversation about trying to trade for non-continuously available beers from HF

I think this can be applied to beer trading on a much larger scale than just HF.

Hill and Suarez limiteds are both rapidly approaching “not worth the hassle” for trading purposes. There’s just too much other good stuff around me to continually have to overpay to get what I want to try. I know I know, worlds smallest violin, etc.

As far as the Facebook bitching, I’m close enough to make Hill a day trip. My favorite time to go is a non release week so I can breathe.

However, if I leave at 1:30 and Ann or a box set comes out right after, I’d be pissed. Because I’m sort of an adult I’d get over it quickly, but I don’t think expressing a moment of disappointment is out of line.

Only a few CD17 mags sold at open today. $200 a pop. These magnum prices are getting a bit too high. Used to be $120, then $160 for CD16, now $200.

Credit where credit is due on lowering prices on 2L growlers though and keeping "shelfie" bottles very reasonable.
Well if people are going use HF Mags as trade bait, may as well gouge the price

The price is high for sure. But, it seems like fairly common industry practice to charge a premium for something that they've been allowing to take up space in storage for 4+ years, right?

Zero issue with the price. Good for them. rather they get it than some shitlord. Plus these beers haven't seen retail in years.

So I happen to be in VT staying 30 mins from Hill Farmstead thanks to a surprise trip from my amazing wife. Any food suggestions or non-beer things to see? We are staying in St. Johnsbury. Planning to hit Cabot and Stowe this weekend.

I've heard good things about Probation Pig and Connie's Kitchen which are on our list so far.

Thanks!

Hen of the Wood, if they're not booked up.
