Don’t totally understand the goal here if they are going to announce the sets before the day of...originally seemed like a good way to reward people for coming up in these slow winter months without having a line down the road. Guess they don’t care if people are there early as long as it isn’t a lot of them?

Agreed. I was mulling the idea of going up today, but with the announcement, I canceled my plans.

Kinda where I am too. Not trying to criticize because I love Hill, but it seems odd to both chide people for standing in line AND create situations that will obviously prompt line standing.

Especially with limited quantities of the Plum box. Why not just announce it today at open?

Their business though, they're more than welcome to proceed how they deem fit.

I think they do it because they understand the whole “limited quantities” thing will drive the majority of people to not make the trip and line up. I think it’s a way of catering to those who live in VT & the NEK instead of dropping silent releases that anyone who shows up could buy. If you’re in NE and saw the post yesterday, chances are you’ll make the trip if you want it badly enough.

What business doesn't want people lining up to buy their product? Regardless of the amount of fedoras.

I would think that is a good problem to have.

This was actually a topic of discussion in the RBT thread not too long ago. Basically small businesses that catapult to GOAT status overnight and can't handle the increased demand and wind up failing. Guess I can see how it is a double edged sword.

Oh yeah, for sure, but didn't line standing up there cause some problems among the locals? I heard a decent amount of scuttle about that when I was there for Damon, but maybe just BS rumors. I'm sure those here know much better than I do.

As I contemplate opening a small brewery... I would love people to line up regardless of what I can handle. I think there are positive ways to handle demand when you are just starting out and experience this. I think HF loves it and likes playing mind games with us :)

Anyone else feel like this is really just clearing out old inventory? I mean, starting with the CD15 mags, the Juicy mags, older M&Cs onsite, now these 3-packs, are they reaching "expiration dates" with some of these older bottles?

Or, of course, maybe they're just ******* with us. This has been a cool post, I know.

Having said that, the person there at 2am should be sterilized and I'm not joking at all.

Or maybe they're simply running out of space?

Or maybe they just like doing stuff that makes ups ********* talk about it? Probably that.

That was what I originally thought. At some point space becomes an issue.

Yes, what's not an issue is our ********* gossiping about it in our sewing circles like teenage girls.

PS: If anyone from Hill is reading this and feels inclined to release an Aaron b1-3 3 pack in two weeks and put one aside for me I can bring up some local, under the radar hops as a thank you. kbai.

You can't criticize the things you love?

That's fair. I guess it's a matter of opinion as to whether or not what I said is criticism. I'm sure those who visit more frequently than I do have a bigger issue with the line standing as it more directly affects them. I only make it once a year unfortunately and I've only been there once where standing in line was in play.

Yeah, I'm really curious how many sets were sold today and when they sold out.

Arthur mags available today, too, according to someone on FB.

I was just thinking about this, do most breweries keep around vintages? Seems like they have quite a lovely stash of beer. But wasn’t sure if it was standard practice for new breweries.

Think it just depends. I know a couple of smaller ones who are starting to keep back vintages for on-site later, but I think storage space is an issue for many.

More than
But only by $30ish. Can’t blame them when so many people are flipping their bottles for such a huge profit. At least it’s not like TG selling a 12 oz. stout for $100.

Edit: Also makes me think of the vinters in Napa etc. who sell bottles of wine for $150. I think this is a similarly sought after product that merits the high price tag based on quality and scarcity. Yes it sounds pricey at first glance, but anyone who knows anything about Hill beers wouldn’t hesitate to pay that price if it makes financial sense for them to do so, and even if it doesn’t they do it anyway.

Maybe two years ago I was up there with my now-wife, and were lucky enough to get a bottle of Ann for on-site consumption. Shaun happened to be the one to serve us, and we got to chat for a few minutes while he removed the wax and poured.

I commented that we loved their policy of always having something vintage and special on the menu for people who make the long drive, and asked how much of each batch they usually hold back for such instances. He said "around 5-10" cases, depending on how large the yield is for each specific beer.

With roughly 40 releases so far in 2018, that could certainly add up, but that's only a couple pallets total. Guess it depends if they need the space for something else?
