In honor of the holiday season been ripping through a good bit of my HF and similar stash over the past week or so. The two that stick out:

Suarez 100 Ft North - It was absolutely amazeballs. If it were an HF shelfie, it might be my favorite. And with it having been a bit since I've had any of those, a good reminder that farmhouse beers need not be wine barrel aged to blow my mind.

This. I am Florence fanboi and this edges Florence for me. Just perfect.

BA Fear & Trembling - Despite basically single-handedly prompting a trip to VT in October for me I hadn't opened one of these until a couple nights ago. Wow is all I can say. I don't know if this is a batch of F&T that went into wine barrels and then bourbon kind of like the DBD treatment or if it's a blend of a wine batch and a separate bourbon batch, but it is not giving much up to that beer either way. If I have any nitpick it's that the smokiness of the base is one of my favorite elements of any darker HF beer and it's not nearly as strong here, but ultimately that can't detract much from how close to perfect this is. If we ever see Everett get this treatment I may die of excitement before turning onto Jaffin Flats.

100 ft North is indeed barrel aged. and amazingly nuanced and balanced.

I didn't think I liked the fact that Hill Farmstead started canning, as I feared it would bring the hype "haze" guys. I feared long lines, ostensibly to Jaffin Flats when something like Abner was announced at two 16-oz. 4-packs per person. This said, from the bookface groups I follow, it seems folks are finally beginning to understand that HF is not only the best "overall" brewery in the world, but also brews the best IPAs around, which we've all been saying for years.

This Citra IPA (which is not much of a different beer than anything they've ever made...) is honestly perfect. I also thought Citra Single Hop was perfect so I can't say how different this is, aside from a touch of a bigger beer.

I'd love a keg :)

Hello Everyone, In honor of a new year, we offer to you one of our favorite and most elusive beers: Art. This particular release began its life nearly 5 years ago as a brew day and primary fermentation of Arthur in 2013. After being placed in wine barrels, the evolution of Arthur into Art is an indeterminate and metamorphic occurrence. Only a single digit percentage of all wine barrel aged Arthur becomes what is unmistakably identifiable as Art - the remainder is often blended into Civil Disobedience. The beer, the barrel, and some yet unknown, unquantifiable condition seems to dictate its path and appearance. It is identified and selected only through the emotional response which it induces during barrel tasting. Shaun Hill is easily the best brewer in the world. There's honestly no one else remotely in his class, in my estimation. These beers are so much better than anything else I've had, in their styles, and this is true across so many different types of beer. It's just unbelievable the degree to which I enjoy these beers more than other representations of the same style. I don't say this lightly either. It would be convenient if I didn't need to drive a thousand miles for my favorite beers, but that's just the reality of the situation. This particular beer began its bottle conditioning on March 18, 2015. This will only be offered for on-site consumption. Due to the very small volume, we chose 375ml bottles for this release in order to further spread its availability. To the brave, warm hearted patrons that should choose to visit us in the month of January, we offer you this as what we hope will be an auspicious beginning to 2018. Thank You and Happiest of New Years! Shaun

Visited a couple of local breweries with a buddy this afternoon/evening. Had a few solid tasters. This said, wanted my last (I think) beer of 2017 to be a great one. Checking in on batch 2 Aaron; opened my last one last year on Christmas Eve.

As good as I remember it - less sweet than the b3 I opened recently. Full caramel, brown sugar with extremely subtle alcohol on the nose and taste. Light to no carbonation. Perhaps a very subtle hint of oxidation which doesn't bother me in this style. Stellar barleywine. Happy New Year to all!

mosaic's my favorite of the single hop series, and among my favorite of hf's hoppy beers (what is enlightenment, legitimacy, conduct, and edward round out my top 5, for those dying to know). would love to make it up for those cans... oh, and the on-site art bottles too!

Opened a 2015 Fear and Trembling this weekend to help me polish off the remaining Christmas cookies.

Not a saison so I won’t say it was drinking beautifully, but damn that smoke held on great and paired perfectly with a couple molasses cookies.
Interesting, I've never found it to be particularly smoky, which is probably why I like it

The comment about the quality of the hops having been disappointing is kind of interesting. S&S6 was probably my favorite hoppy beer ever in the 14-15 time period. I had a can from the first canned batch was good but didn't blow me away at all, I had something of a "that's it?" reaction. It's hard to say for sure if it was because it actually didn't taste as good as I remember or expectation/palate shifts, but it definitely didn't live up to the mental image I'd created of the beer. Hop freshness/quality being a big component in batch variation of IPAs is obviously nothing new of course. I recall some pretty meh S&S5 batches in the recent past. On the other hand, all the hoppy around the time of the TB 4th Anni party were really on point and just bursting with great hop character.

I have no idea what the point of that post was, in retrospect. ISO Single Hop Mosaic cans I guess?
