I was referred by a friend to Talk Beer so I am going to give this a try, I just moved to Vermont for Grad School from CA I live close to Burlington and dont have a car and was wondering if I can catch a ride with anybody to Hill Farmstead this upcoming weekend. I would love to offer gas money and open something good from my cellar something along the lines of upland, nocturn, or some russian river sours, etc . Hopefully somebody can help me out I really would love to buy some Anna as its one of my favorite offerings. PM me thank you.

You guys are doing it wrong, here's the perfect plan for a Thursday afternoon:

3:00: leave work for a "Doctors Appointment"
4:30: arrive at HF, get (hopefully) unlimited growlers, chat with Kerrie and Phil, etc.
5:00ish: Go to Parker Pie
8:00: arrive home

Simple.

Actually, it's more like leave work at 11:30 for lunch & errands
Arrive at HF at 12:10 for errands
Leave HF at 12:20 w/ bottles
Eat crusty subway sandwich purchased that morning while on the way to work
Arrive back at work at 1pm.
Later that evening, sneak said bottles into basement when wifey is asleep
Later that month when asked why we don't seem to have any money these days just shrug and change the subject.
Repeat until broke or divorced...

LOL!

I'm impressed that you can be in and out with bottles in 10 minutes. If you're doing it right that's after having your sample tasters as well! ;)

Imagine how different the beer scene would look if it were only populated by married men with children, visiting breweries only with the blessing of very understanding wives.

My wife and I have a formula - I get to go to Hill and I give her my credit card when we get to Burlington. Somehow I still come out a winner in that deal!

That's what I did on Saturday for Zwanze. I don't know if bottle line is always available but there were probably 50 people in line for growlers so I walked up and waited my turn @ the bottle line, grabbed a case of Dorothy, 6 Golden Doesjel, 6 Convivial and 2 boxes of glassware (bulb + tasters) and I was out in under 5 minutes. Then went to Parker Pie for lunch and came back for Zwanze day.

Yeah, I'd love to have a few growlers of Abner & Earl right now but I'll survive.

You were following me that day like a ************!!!

*most* growler offerings are usually available in Waterbury, so there is usually no need to wait...

If I didn't make that stop for mozzarella sticks, you would have been following me.

Edit: Not sure if I should let this secret out but Marty's First Stop in Danville is a great stop before or after Hill Farmstead. It adds 1 minute of driving time to HFS and they have warm food, deli sandwiches, pre-packaged stuff and the best steak tips in all of Vermont.
They marinate them for many days, i always get like 2 pounds of them and bake them on low in the oven in the marinade. Highly recommended. They also have gas which is good for that fill up on the way home.

Just go the red route instead of blue and drop where the red arrow is. I can't recommend them highly enough. I stop there every trip now.

Im sure this has been asked a zillion times but the wife gave the green light for a trip to VT this upcoming weekend. Lodging options between Waterbury and HF, anyone?

I think old stagecoach may have a 2 night minimum, not sure what your plans are. If they do, check out the best western in Waterbury. I have never been, but heard good things.

Nothing about a minimum on the site, going to call after lunch today. Looked at other options as well, just about everything is sold out. Thanks for the heads up though. May just stay somewhere in Winooski or something, wife is preggers so no worry about a DD.

I stayed there for one night this past May without any problem fwiw. Definitely recommend stagecoach for its proximity to the bars.

I knew it wasn't on the site and really can't remember where I heard that - guessing I either called once or read it in an online thread. Let me know what you find out, would be good to know.

Edit: based on primebeer, seems like it's no problem. Definitely stay there if that's the case
