Greetings from Vancouver Island!
I started brewing about 6 or 7 years ago with Cooper's kits, and Spagnol's Brewhouse Kits - and quickly moved on to custom extract recipes, steeping grains, and hops. I moved here to the Island in 2005 and had only brewed once - a subpar first attempt at all-grain brewing.
My place just wasn't set up for it. I had plans to renovate my workshop and create my brewery in there. Did the reno, got it all done. Then our first baby came and all the stuff from the house that no longer fit went out into my beloved brewery.
So I bought a bigger house.
Now I have the perfect brew room - a small but adequate shed which houses our well equipment and sits atop a 5000 gal water cistern. It's wired, insulated, and heated for year-round temperature control. All my gear fits in there perfectly.
Knowing that I was going to get back into brewing, I started to collect more equipment. I built a better mash tun out of a Coleman cooler (my previous tun was a bucket with a false bottom). One of the things I always hated about brewing was bottling, so I found a cheap (but quality commercial) kegerator. And, I picked up 5 FREEEEE Corny Kegs from a guy who has way too many, apparently!
I'm pleased to report that aside from my LHBS selling me WAYYY too many hops for a pale ale, all my new equipment functioned perfectly and I'm enjoying my first batch now.
Glad to be back into it, and looking forward to my next brew. Can't wait to participate in the forums and learn all I can.
Cheers!!
