So I'm new to the whole home brewing thing. Never done it but looking to start soon. I wanna make my first batch ready by Yule but I know some brews take very long times to complete so that's more of a dream than a goal. I'm not familiar with the jargon so if anyone could help me out with that I'd be greatly appreciative other than that I'm hoping to get a great experience from joining. Thanks for reading!

Welcome. There are many styles you can brew that will be ready well before Yule.
I would recommend not taking on a high OG brew or a highly spiced brew for your first beer. Start with low to average gravity beers until you have a handle on the procedures from cleaning, sanitation, boil volumes, yeast pitching rate, and temperature control.

Welcome to the site.
Plenty of brews to do that won't take much as far as equipment and tons of brews that only take about 4 weeks to be ready. Although a little more time may help.
Take a peak around and post if you have questions.

I'm looking to get a couple of beers ready for next month! Yule would be easy, and even a few of the bigger beers can be ready by then.

I recommend brewing whatever kind of beer it is you want to drink and don't worry about the schedule. Lagers can take 2 months or so, but almost every ale will be ready in that much time or less.

Figure 2 weeks or so for fermentation, and 2-3 weeks for the beer to carb in the bottle.

I'm looking to brew mead not beer or ale. I could have a one month brew but I'm not sure if I could get it right. I'm going this weekend to try and get some mead professional brewed to see what it should taste like

Ah, well then it will be tough to get it done in time. It won't hurt to get something fermenting and see what happens.

Mead takes much longer to make than beer. I got my start in fermentation with Mead and quickly realized that in the time it takes mead to be ready (It's done when it says its done) I could brew several months worth of beer. My current Mead has been in the carboy for almost 8 months now. It's finally ready to bottle. My suggestion, get a couple batches of Mead started then start brewing beer. You can at least have something to drink all the way through Yule.

I totally agree! Maybe get a batch or two of mead going, then do some ales. Like a bourbon stout (called whiskely from colonial times to prohibition here) or maybe a vanilla porter. Both could be ready by Christmas. Or for now some pale ales or amber ales for fall.:mug:
