Hi, i have been lurking here for a while and it's time to log in and join the discussion.

I would describe myself as an emerging rookie brewer. I've done 9 extract kits with good results; oviously learning lots along the way. My goal is to get into BIAB and build an electric one-kettle set up. There's sure a lot to read here and i appreciate the amount of data and willingness to help out.

Both my wife and i are retired from the Army and enjoy living in Alaska. Besides brewing beer i like to fish and hunt and just enjoy all Alaska has to offer.

Thanks for a great site!

Thank you for your service and welcome to group from CT!

I imagine it's a bit tough to get supplies out there away from the lower 48? Do you have a LHBS?

Cheers!

We have a great one in Anchorage with decent prices on grain/hops/yeast, but their equipment prices are crazy high.

Welcome to the board.

Where about in AK are you? I'm down in Seward.

We're across the peninsula from you - Soldotna! Altho, this time of year we call it "Slow-dotna".

And yes the "L" in LHBS is relative… Anchorage is about a 2 1/2 to 3 hour drive...

It is slow this time of year for sure.

There is a nice home brew club in Kenai that meets once a month for tastings i think. Can't remember the name, but they do have a website.

*** Here is the link ***

Welcome to the board! I spent some time in Alaska myself while in the Navy...on a small island called Adak. It was quite the adventure, id love to move back there someday. To the mainland that is.

I'd love to get out to the Aleutians sometime - i have not explored that part of Alaska and it's on our bucket list. I'll bet it was an adventure!

Hi from the UK. I spent six months in Alaska working aboard ships. I have to say I fell in love with the place although I was never there in winter! When one guy I knew pointed out the marks on the telephone poles were the snow level for the previous year I didn't know if he was joking or not lol. But out of all the places in the world I've been to I have to say Alaska was and is something very special.

Quite jealous :D
