I am new to posting here but have read many threads for a while now.
I may ramble a bit but bear with me as I am undergoing a big jump here.
I have been brewing for a couple years with my father in law who happens to be a chemical engineer and understands way more about why what we do works than I ever will but, we brew some pretty great beers on a small scale.
we have invested in a new setup.
we bought stout tanks..30 gallon hlt, mash ton, and boil kettles.
I built a stand and mounted and plumbed three chugger pumps.
one for the mash ton to recirculate...turn a three way, and send to the boil kettle.
one to sparge and fill the mash ton ..
and a third to whirlpool and send the wort through the filter and plate chiller.
on a small scale we have had some slow sparges at times.
my question is this ...
should I be concerned about slow sparges killing my chugger pumps during recirculation or sending to the boil kettle in our setup?
we have considered a laudergrant to buffer but I see a lot of people reciculating and what have you with no issue.
am I overthinking a problem that does not yet exist?
also am ordering a process control from e brew supply.
im am leaning to the 50 amp two element pid over the bcs because I am more comfortable with manual buttons and switches over a computer app and screen..any thoughts?

Only thing I can suggest from my experience..Are the slow sparges due to slow draining out of the grainbed? And are you controlling the flow rate at the OUTPUT of the pump and not the INPUT of the pump? Keep the IN wide open and adjust flow rate at the OUT side of the pump..If you try controlling the flow at the INPUT side , yeah, good chance of burning out the pump..

the slow sparges were when we were doing small batches on a burner.
I was concerned about this being a problem when we use the setup we built.
we have yet to use it.
this has been a discussion we have had about potential problems with recirculation.
I say I have seen many people that use this setup with no issue.
my brew partner is ready to buy a laudergrant as a buffer before the fact.
I am trying to settle a disagreement that this will be an issue.
its more about anticipating a potential problem.
I was wondering if there are others that use a laudergrant as a buffer for this or if it is a non issue. ..with the appropriate valve control as you spoke of.
