While out of town working in Palm Springs CA, I stopped at a bar called "The Beer Hunter". This bar was amazing and sported over 300 different kinds of beer. This particular day (After work and tired) I asked the bartender to give me one of the strangest beers they had. He looks at me and says with a smile and NO hesitation, "I've got just what you need". he goes into the fridge and produces a ber bottle that has a pot leaf on the label. I was kind of excited to tell the truth. He opens it and sets it in front of me and I grab it and give it a smell. Maybe I was expecting it to smell like pot, but it just smelled like beer. I give it a taste and...

This had to be the most disgusting thing I have ever tried. I did try this before I had developed a taste for anything other than BMC. I was just curious if anyone had tried this before? What is this beer called, and what are your thoughts?

I tried a hemp beer 10 years or more ago and my reaction was about the same as yours. I don't think I even fin ished the bottle.

My buddy the liquor store owner has some of that on the shelves. I didn't buy any and now because of your review I will not. Thanks for saving me money :)

I haven't tried it yet, but I've heard good things about Dubhe Imperial Black IPA from Uinta Brewing and it's brewed with hemp seeds. It was featured on the 1/30/2012 episode of Can You Brew It.

I had some at a brew meeting a couple months ago FREAKING FANTASTIC...great aroma great taste.....I am now wanting some

I was told if needed to "test" for work, Not to sample it :D

So is hemp beer fermented hemp leaves?:p Sounds stupid and gimmicky. No there is no THC in it. They do sell pot beer in Amsterdam that is supposed to be a hit though.

Does this beer have thc in it? Mainly because I'm curious of the legality of it

Not necessarily but possibly. I read THIS ARTICLE from BYO several months ago. It says
"However, being a very close relative to marijuana, industrial hemp does still contain minimal quantities of THC (tetrahydrocannabinol), the active ingredient in marijuana. This makes it a controlled substance and illegal to cultivate in the United States. The hemp seeds imported into the United States must be sterilized to render them nonviable. Although the seeds themselves do not contain any traceable THC, planting them produces a plant that contains THC. In fact the seeds must be thoroughly cleaned and free of virtually all — in government speak — "extraneous vegetative material."

Many years ago I had a beer called Hempen Ale or something like that. It was brewed by the Frederick Brewing Co in MD. Not sure, but think they are no longer around. It was brewed with hemp seeds. No THC and totally legal. It was decent as I remember. I think there are threads on here about using hemp seeds. You can buy online (sterilized)

edit- here is the one I had. Apparently no longer brewed.
