I opened the first bottle of the NB AG Surly Furious clone kit that I brew over a month ago and I am quite dissapointed. I let it sit in the primary for 4 weeks, dry hopped for a week, and it's been sitting in bottles for 3 weeks. The OG was ~1.056 and FG was 1.015. First off it had a massive frothy head on it that didn't really dissapear while drinking it. It had a very bready/yeasty aroma to it that was not very appealing at all. This yeast/bready aroma was also present in the taste and really dominated it, not allowing any of the hops to shine through. The beer was fermented with Wyeast British Ale II-1335. It also had a kind of plastic like after taste.

The only problem with fermentation that I can think of is that it was fermented too warm at ~75 degrees. Also, I missed the estimated OG of 1.064 by a good bit so that may be a contributing factor as well. I did also pitch using a yeast starter.

Thanks for the Help!:drunk:

too warm is all bad and the damage is done but it's an easy fix for the next time; control your fermentation temps! missing your numbers probably has very little to do with the bad taste.

Might have been some errors in the mash temperatures that helped cause some of the off flavors but most likely it sounds like the problem is mostly due to fermentation temperatures.
