I'm in the process of boiling my first batch this evening, and have sanitized all my equipment. Right now I'm trying to put the rubber stopper in the vent of the glass carboy to keep it sealed and clean until I'm ready to transfer my wort, and the damn stopper wont stay put, it keeps popping out!

I have a 3 gallon glass carboy, that came with a #7 stopper. I also have a small universal rubber bung...and NEITHER will stay in the hole. I dont know if I'm doing something wrong? I've tried with and without the airlock, and it still wont stay put! I dont know if it's because the carboy is wet from the StarSan or what, but I need help -- and QUICKLY!

Any suggestions

It's the StarSan causing the bung to pop out. I usually just leave it partially out until it's drier, then shove it in the rest of the way.......wow does that sound bad :)

+1 that happens to me all the time. I'll starsan the stopper, stick it in the better bottle and a few seconds later my airlock is on it's way to a brief visit with the ceiling. As Ryan says. Just set it on the opening and then come back later and seat it. It doesn't need to be in there super tight.

I've crossed my fingers and used a paper towel to dry off the airlock and the inside of the neck. Maybe not the most sanitary thing to do.... I don't have to worry about it any more on my plastic carboys because I can push a #10 stopper just below the lip of the neck and an indentation keeps it there. I did have the airlock pop out and roll onto the floor the other day though, was before I went to work and I was not amused, it rolled onto the basement floor into some dog hair...
