Hello out there in homebrew land. My brew kettle has a welded 1/2" FPT port for a dial thermometer. Problem is, in order to get a good, leak free seal I have to screw in my 1/2" MPT thermometer as far as it will go, and that leaves the dial upside down, making it slightly harder to read. I can still make beer with it, but my OCD makes me really really really want to get it pointed the right way.

Ideas on how to do this? Some type of O-ring or gasket? More Teflon tape? Buy a better thermometer with a rotating face?

Someone smarter than me must have had this problem before and solved it, right?

Cheers.

That one.

And if you have enough teflon tape, you don't need to crank it all the way down to get a good seal. You are not trying to make a compression seal. Let the teflon tape do the sealing for you.
