Help! I can't get my shank out of my tower!

So, I've read lots of other threads and even - gasp - other forums and I can't seem to find instructions for my particular problem.

I popped the cap off my draft tower in hopes I'd be able to change out my beer line. What I saw was the shank extending through the wall of the tower, with a 90 degree bend, and about 8 inches of steel or chrome plated brass tubing, with the plastic beer line hose-clamped to that.

Now, here is where the problem is. Most other diagrams I've seen have a nut on the inside of the tower, holding the shank and tap on the tower. Mine is the opposite.

There is a locking nut just behind the retaining collar for the tap on the outside of the tower, and on the inside it's a flat piece of brass/steel and then the 90 degree tube/bend.

Is there a way I can remove the retaining ring for the tap? I think I'd be able to slide off the lock nut and then poke the shank assembly down the tower to change out the line (and clean it, it's gross - secondhand).

If you remove the faucet and back the nut up towards the tower a bit you may see a snap ring that keeps that nut from falling off the shank. Remove the snap ring and slide the nut off the shank, then you should be able to loosen and spin off the nut that's holding the shank to the tower...

As he described it, it doesn't look anything like that. That one has a flange on the faucet side and a retainer nut on the inside of the tower, while his shank has an integrated flange at the rear with a retainer nut on the outside of the tower...

Thanks - I thought that was the solution, just knew how much of a PITA getting the snap ring off would be (and it was, OH IT WAS).

But, I got it apart, sawed off the long chrome plated brass tube and changed out the beer line with 6' of brand new 3/16" line. Once I get my overcarbonated pale ale down to proper carb levels (it's taken over 3 weeks of purging a couple times a day) it should pour nicely.

I finally caved and bought a new regulator. The one that came with my used kegerator was pretty disgusting and unreliable as far as pressure is concerned (hence the overcarbed beer).

And, I am definitely going to clean that beer tap more often. 0_o GROSS.
