Hi guys,
I want to brew the meantime IPA using the recipe at this link:
http://www.brewersfriend.com/homebrew/recipe/view/6425/meantime-ipa-clone

This will be my first all grain beer, but I want to reduce the weight of pale ale to 3Kg and instead use some extract DME, so the new list of grains (efficiency 70%) is:

3 kg United Kingdom - Maris Otter Pale
0.5 kg United Kingdom - Munich
0.3 kg United Kingdom - Crystal 80L
0.4 kg Cane Sugar
1.8 kg Extract DME - Amber

What do you think?

is this due to mashing limitations? you can do two mash sessions,

I would not use DME and the Cane Sugar, i would up the maris otter, the munich a little, ditch the crystal 80L..

thks for your reply :)

yes, it's due to mashing limitations and I thought that maybe limiting the weight of base malt, my first all grain batch would have been more simple.

why you suggest to leave cane sugar and crystal?

When using DME, drop the crystal and sugar, totally.

so if you are limited in mashing:
3 kg maris otter
2.26 kg DME - amber

this will put you right on target
using notty yeast, will be close in in the fg/og and abv of the original, and even the color (srm) will be real close.
I mean, it's 7.36% vs 7.26%, 8.76 srm vs 8.45

(and the recipe calls for crystal 30L, not 80L, which makes more sense :) )
