Hmm....been around lurking for a while, decided to join.

I've been homebrewing for about 10 years or so...following the usual path from extract to AG.

Currently have 7.5 gallons of robust porter in the primary. Plan to split into 3/3/1.5 and secondary with chocolate/coffee/plain for 2 weeks before bottling.

Next up is your basic standard specialty grain taste test: 5 --- 1.5 gallon batches of pale ale malt steeped with one specialty grain each: chocolate, crystal, munich, vienna, and none (as a control).

After that is a base malt taste test. another 7.5 gallons at 1.5 gallons each of 5 different base malts.

Experiments like that are interesting. I haven't done them to that extent but a few times have varied one thing to see what the difference was.

Welcome to HBT.

Brent

Thanks. Yeah, a couple years ago I made a series so SMaSH IPAs, where I only varied the bop between them. I also did some where I varied the balance between bitter/flavor/aroma while holding ibu constant.

I like doing experiment beers.
