Welcome and good luck. The best way to learn is asking those questions and reading, reading, reading. Of course getting a few batches under your belt doesn't hurt. When I started out (something like 25 years ago ) I tried to be very systematic, start simple and the change one variable at a time. That was very useful. Anyway, welcome and stick around for some time. You will get better.
