Hey there folks!

I recently got a "Mr. Beer" starter kit ... I'm going to start my first batch tomorrow morning. Now, I've read a lot of mixed reviews on this product. But I'm completely new to homebrewing... and my wife got it for me so I can't wait to give it a shot!

Any suggestions for a newbie like myself before I get things started?

Welcome! Where in South Texas are you? We spend two months of the winter on the Gulf Coast near Corpus Christi.

mr. beer is pretty simple, so you shouldn't have any problems at all. Just do your best to keep the fermenter at about 65 degrees if possible and it should be fine. My friend has a mr beer, and loves the results. So you may find that it works out just fine for you. (I don't like her beer one bit, but I am a beer snob after all, so there is that).

Thanks for the info! Its day 3 in the fermenter and I've done my best to keep the house at about 70 degrees.

I actually live in Victoria, Tx... about 90 minutes from Corpus.

Howdy, fellow Texan!

Mr. Beer is good for what it is: a simple, easy, no frills way to get introduced into homebrewing. If you follow the instructions, keep everything sanitary, and watch your fermentation temps, it will produce perfectly drinkable beer. That said, after a few batches on the Mr. Beer, there's a pretty good chance you'll want to move onto more advanced brewing techniques before long.

Welcome to the addiction.

As far as I can gather... You should see what the temp range was stated on the yeast you used.

I used to live in Victoria.... My dad still does so we go there pretty often.

I also have a place in POC and keep our boat there as well.

I am new to the brewing hobby but really enjoying thus far.

I have learned a lot from this forum already thanks to the good folks on here.

Welcome to the forum. I am a wannabe Texan. Live here, bought the boots, but still can't say fixin' to and keep a straight face.

Go Cowboys!

Fellow S. Texan, here! I'm a noob, too, and I think the most important tip I've learned is to not let fermentation temp get too hot! Research "swamp cooler." It can get too high even sitting in an a/c'ed house.

Welcome!
