Hi all, I am new to the world of homebrewing; it's something I've been wanting to try for a while. I thought it might be helpful to be a forum member to get advice from those in the know. I also thought it might be fun to blog about my experience as a beginner so I set up a blogger site, might be interesting, I don't know.

If anyone knows of any great sites for a beginner I would love to know what they are. I'd also be interested to know if there are any podcasts about home brewing.

Anyway, it's great to be here and I look forward to participating.

Cheer,
J

Wellcome from a fellow New Englander!

There are podcast, but I haven't listened to them yet so I can't point you in the right direction (someone will). As to beginner sites, read this:

www.howtobrew.com (John Palmer's book in on-line form)

and hang out here. Trust me, I'm an idiot noob and they've been quite nice! Search around the forums, you'll see that pretty much every question you might have has probably been asked multiple times, but we're good about answering it again if needed!

Check out The Brewing Network. You can subscribe to have podcasts sent directly to iTunes.

There are so many resources on the web to help make you the best brewer that you can be. Here are a few forums that I have found to be very helpful. I check them all daily.

The Brewing Network Forum
Northern Brewer Forum
More Beer Forum
BrewBoard Forum

I have a lot of other resources with regard to yeast propagation, soda keg maintenance, kegging in general, carbonation. Just ask something specific when the need arises and either I or someone else will come to your aid.

Take the birds advise above and spend some time and thoroughly read John Palmer's online book, "How To Brew" backwards and forwards. It has a wealth of info for new brewers.

Also, being from Providence we are practically neighbors. Have you every been to "The Witches Brew" home brew supply store in Foxboro, Ma.? It is a great place. If you have never been there just let me know and I will give you the info on the place.

John

Thanks for all the great feedback, it's so nice to come on a board and have people respond in a helpful way.

I've heard of the Witches Brew but never been there, where in Foxboro are they, I have to check them out.

It is run by the owner/operator out of his basement believe it or not. His name is Steve and he is a great guy. Very helpful and he has just about everything you could need, and if he doesn't have in the store he can get it. He gets a lot of business so his stock is always fresh, and he always has different beers on tap to sample.

Due to the fact that he does this as a side to a regular job, The Witches Brew is only open on Thursdays and Fridays, 6-8 pm and Saturdays from noon to 5 pm. Also he will open by appointment if you really need something. It is located just off the green in downtown Foxboro.

Here is a link to The Witches Brew that provides store hours, phone number and directions.
