We have a long and proud brewing history here in Milwaukee.
Time for mew to jump on board!

My wife got me a Northern Brewer starter kit for Christmas.
It came with the Block Party Amber Ale.
I made a few mistakes in the brew process, but it is drinkable, if not weak.

I started a nut brown ale today.
New Glarus Fat Squirrel is my favorite beer, sadly discontinued.

Here's hoping I ace this batch!

welcome from my house to yours right down the street! Good to see more people from milwaukee here.

Welcome from a little bit more west in Waukesha!
Keep it up, be willing to learn, and you'll be making some awesome beer in no time flat!

Welcome to our little slice of insanity! And when I was growing up, there were FOUR breweries going full-tilt in Milwaukee...my home town!

Fat Squirrel is officially discontinued??? I thought it was just on hiatus. How will I torment my mom, she hates squirrels, so I am always trying to find squirrel-related or squirrel-themed gifts for her.

I'd really like a recipe for a clone of Yokel. That stuff is good.

Welcome! I myself was born and brewed in Milwaukee to the tender age of 12 and a half. Now I'm 90 minutes north in Two Rivers. They say Milwaukee has some of the best drinking water on Earth. Just make sure you take the chlorine out of it if you use it to brew. :)

How do I take the chlorine out?

How do I take the chlorine out?

Best way is to add 1/2 Campden tablet crushed per 5 gallons water on brew day prior to combining with any of the malt or other ingredients. The reaction is immediate (or okay, less than 30 seconds or whatever, mixing well). Removal of chlorine prevents medicinal Band-Aid type flavors, which is occasionally a significant problem if it is left in there.

So the amber doesn’t produce a head, but there is some carbonation.
The APV seems really weak.
Tastes good, but I think I messed up my first batch.

I’m going to slam a couple after work tonight and see if I catch a buzz.
