Hi there from the Pine Tree State! I'm Sara and I'm a neophyte to homebrewing. I've been interested for a while in homebrewing, but am now finally getting around to taking the plunge! Both my hubby and I love craft beer, so you can imagine his response when I told him I wanted to try making my own. ;) I recently picked up a copy of Charlie Papazian's "The Complete Joy of Homebrewing" and John Palmer's most recent edition (as in this month) of "How to Brew". I've also already picked up an extract kit for brown ale from my local homebrew shop and cannot wait to try it!
Hubby and I will be moving fairly soon to the Lewiston/Auburn area and I was wondering if there are any clubs or associations in the area?
Thanks and I look forward to getting to know you all better!

A few things about me: I have a B.S. in Health Sciences, fiddler (in the New England/French Canadian/Celtic traditions), cook and avid baker, book worm (especially the classics), and a cat lover.

Hey, welcome from a fellow Mainer. I know there are a handful of active homebrew clubs down here in the Portland area, and I'm told there's a decent little brewing community in the Gardiner area centered around the brew shop there. Not sure about the immediate L/A area, though.

(There's a small homebrew shop in New Gloucester, too, but I've only been in there once and it was a little... weird.)

@Mainer: Hi, nice to meet another Mainah! Are you talking about The Hop Shop in Gray? I've come across it on the internet but haven't been by to check it out.

Right, that's the one. Gray, not New Gloucester. Yeah, it was... interesting...
The guy just seemed really startled that I was there, and then really annoyed that I was shopping instead of leaving him on his own to brew.
