Hello I am Robert and I just got back from a 3 year tour of Germany where I really found out how much I love beer! When I came back to the states I was dismayed that even my old favorite Yuengling just wasnt up to what I had been drinking in Germany. The only domestic beer I dont spit out is SA. A SSG friend of mine said that he brewed his own beer and said Ishould try doing that. "Yeah, Yeah", I said. Until I saw a small kit offered in my local B&N bookstore that came ready to brew Hefeweissen. I bought the kit and brewed it that night.
Fast forward..
I just bottled it Saturday but not before having a taste and I just was like JTFC it is just like it tastes in Germany, only flat. And so now it is on like donkey kong.
I cant wait to brew a Rauchbier, being stationed close to Bamberg I had a few, which is a very rare and unique drink.

Welcome to the hobby, and the group, from CO :mug:

Lagers are more time and labor intensive than ales, but I am a huge fan, I almost always have a lager on tap. And I find them to be just as good as those in Germany. The German brews just don't ship well, so your own homebrew can be significantly superior. There are a number of crafts who are doing great lagers, too.

I got into brewing for the same reason. I was stationed north of Frankfurt and loved the beer, started brewing in 1997 and have never looked back. I have enjoyed many good beers in Stuttgart and Ramstein. I am looking forward to moving back in 2 months!

Welcome to the hobby from Ft. Worth. Just finished lagering a Munich Helles that takes me back to my days in the beer gardens there!
