Yes, Alabama, the state where high gravity beer has just become legal and homebrewing is on the verge of being there! Ever since I started drinking beer I've been interested in homebrewing, and I finally saved money enough to start earlier this year (I'm a graduate student, so money is pretty scarce). So right now I've got a Belgian Wheat fermenting (gonna hit the bottles this weekend) and a Cherry Wheat kit coming some time soon (both LME kits from Midwest Supplies). So far I love it, even before I've tasted any product! I'm looking forward to trying some more experimenting on my own, but I figure I'll get a few more kit brews under my belt before I try anything too fancy. Yep, so that's me!

Welcome from Moody, AL. Enjoy the process and always taste your SG reading samples, It's great well at least to me. I just started too begining of the year and got 5 batches of beer and 3 ciders going.

Welcome! I started about this time last year and now have 100 gallons under my belt (literally, you should see my gut ). You're going to really enjoy this hobby.

By the way if you haven't already, you should browse over to

and send a letter to your senator and representative in support of SB153, the bill to legalize homebrewing in Alabama.

brewagentjay - I had read somewhere on here about trying the hydrometer samples. Honestly I hadn't thought of doing that, but now that I think about it, it makes sense. I mean, why waste beer?

sulawesi - Sorry I missed ya. I have heard of the club and plan on going to one of their meetings soon, but thanks for the heads up! Were you here for school or work?

md20_20 - Mmmmm....100 gallons under my belt....*snaps out of it* Thanks for the link. I had seen this on the Auburn Brew Club website but had forgotten about it. Time to let my voice be heard!

meddin - Thanks!

Welcome to a great community and hobby. The Auburn brew club has a great reputation, you'd do well to get involved with them.

Hello all you law breakers:mug:

Just my .02 cents worth but my beers improved drastically when I switched to DME and also kept good control on my fermentation temps. Some people are fine with LME but IMO DME is better. Now that I'm in to all grain DME is only for starters but i made some really good beers with it.

Good Luck & RTR
Alan
