Hello fellow beeraficianados!
I have to admit, I used to hate beer. I didn't like the taste and it always made me really full, so I pretty much steered clear of it. Then I tried and Amber and thought that wasn't to bad. A couple years later my good friend turns me onto some of his homebrew, and it was really good. That changed my perception dramatically. It reminded me of how I used to hate chili, but I liked all the ingredients in chili, so why didn't I like it?
Now I know it is possible, and most likely I wrote beer off way back when I tried the standard domestic beers. Just like I wrote off chili. With chili I forged out and decided to make my own chili recipe that I would like. After much practice and honing to a pretty standard recipe, I even entered a chili cook-off and took first place.
Now I'm venturing forth into the realms of brewing beer. Admittedly, I seem to push myself in most everything, and have a tendency to dive deep quickly. I figure, why waste time, let's get to the heart of the matter. And I do learn from previous experiences ... So .. I'm posting in this welcome thread.
I grew up online over at CigarPass under the nick Blue Dragon. My buddy Dan pointed me over to this forum. I started reading the FAQ and got to the book and proceeded to read through chapter 6 in one night. I'm a fan of "Read More Post Less", so you may not see much from me unless I have something worthy to contribute or a question I can't seem to find the answer to posted elsewhere. Or there is the possibility that someones answer might just confuse me as well, so I'll ask then too.
I have brewed a few batches of beer with a friend and then decided to take up the art myself. To date, I have brewed two 5gal batches myself. I remember going into the brew store and having the lady working there try to steer me away from what I wanted to try to make to a more simple recipe since it was going to be my first batch. Now I understand why she may have, and others have, recommended to start out more simply. However, that isn't just the way I tend to operate .. and isn't it all about passion? .. So I did it anyway and made a Honey Brown Amber. And same with the second batch, I made a Honey Brown Porter. .. And along the same style, the more I learn, the more I know, the more I want to try, and the more I realize I don't know a whole hell of a lot. So I'm researching a Stout and have come up with some good ideas. I know it is past the traditional holiday beer start times, but I'm thinking of heading down a path of a Chirstmas Cookie Stout. It should be interesting and I should learn a bit more this time around. I'm sure at some point I'll try to hone down into a couple solid recipes, but for now, I'm just having fun.
Cheers!
