I recently started helping a friend with his home-brewing and am about to venture off on my own a bit. I joined this forum to learn some more of the ins and outs as I get started and will hopefully be able to share some of my own insights and recipes in the future.

Welcome to the forum! For starters, I reccomend a True Brue or Mr. Beer homebrew set, as you'll get your basic ingredients and a basic set of instructions inside. It's hard to go wrong with those. Once you kinda have a feel for what brewing is like, then start experimenting with different recipes.

I would skip Mr. Beer and go with a true brew... it's just one extra step and beer comes out much better...

For the moment I'm borrowing a bunch of equipment from my friend that I've brewed with before. Do the kits you're talking about come with just ingredients, or do they also include equipment?

Depends on the kit...most kits come with a bucket, carboy, brush, book, ect and the ingredient kit is usually seperate, however I guess it depends on whos selling the kits.
Welcome to HBT!!
