Hey everyone,

Just wanted to give a quick intro. I am an Army helicopter pilot and have been doing this for about 8 years now. I love great microbrews ( I was lucky enough to get stationed at Fort Lewis, WA, early in my Army career), and Redhook ESB is hands-down my favorite to date.
I just bought my beer brewing equipment from homebrewheaven.com and so far I am 6 days into a Vanilla Hefeweizen. I got "started" in the homebrewing addiction with the Mr. Beer Kit (which sucks) and finally got fed up with crap beer from that system, so I upgraded to a two stage fermentation system and the 5 gallon Cornelius kegging system. Please see my post in the beginners forum for my 1st question. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Anyway, I'm very excited to start brewing my own real beer and look forward to the friendly advice on this forum.

Later,

PH24

Hi and welcome to the forums. You have made a wise decision with the new system. Have you tried the Redhook Longhammer IPA? It's pretty good too. I am going to try to do a clone of thier ESB next. They also use reusable bottles which is a plus.

Welcome!

I'm glad you were able to locate and submit an ID-Ten-Tango form (IDIOT) for the upgrade to real brewing!

Which chopper? I used to be an Armament LAR for TACOM-RI. I've been trained on the Apache and OH-58. Also as an ex-Gun Bunny I've flown many times in Shiithooks...last time was in Kosovo.;)

Welcome.

I'm an AF wx dude so I've been Army support plenty of times. Spent a few years at Campbell and one year at Camp Page in KO-REA supporting the Apaches and a squadron (battalion..LOL) of rescue Blackhawks....

So are you still at Ft. Lewis?

Sounds like you've got a good start--I think lots of people start out with that vanilla hefe kit. Should be great!

Let us know it turns out and ask us questions or teach us stuff!!

Welcome to the forum. Lots of great people here with advice. I have gotten a lot of help here. I was at Camp Casey, Korea. Did 8 years in the Army. Bye.

I have not tried their IPA but have had their ESB, Copper Hook, and Winter Hook. Liked them all. Please post your results for the ESB Clone, I would love to find a good recipe. Homebrewheaven.com offers a "Redstand ESB" kit which is supposedly a Redhook ESB clone.

Too funny with the IDIOT form. It amazes me that it took me so long to figure it out. As far as the helicopter stuff, I am an OH-58D instructor pilot and I am loving it.
