well I brewed my first AG batch sat night and its now monday evening, and im beginning to worry because the airlock isnt bubbling yet. I made a about 4.5 gal batch and its in my 6 gal. ale pale. just wondering what the causes could be and if i need to start worring yet. I used safale 05. I poped the lid on the ale pale, and there is a layer of crud on the top. Any help would be appreciated

Your lid isn't sealing properly, if there's "crud" on the top its fermenting, put the top back on and leave it be for at least 10 days.

Then take a hydro sample.

Well the crud is Krausen, you're fine. everything is as it should be. If you've done any looking around at the stickies you'll know that you should not depend on the bubbling. I have 2 or 3 bucket that don't seal well and the airlocks dont bubble. Everythings fine, if you think the Krausen it getting close to the top of the lid , a blow tube might be nice , otherwise forget about it for atleast 3 weeks.
