I made this recipe once before but without the rye and used S05 - it came out great and decided to see what some rye would do just because...

brewing this friday.

Heff-Rye-Zen - American Wheat or Rye Beer

Batch Size: 6.000 gal
Boil Size: 7.000 gal
Boil Time: 1.000 hr
Efficiency: 65%
OG: 1.051
FG: 1.013
ABV: 5.0%
Bitterness: 21.9 IBUs (Tinseth)
Color: 5 SRM (Morey)
Yeast WLP320
Mash 154 for 60 min

Fermentables

5.5 lbs Pale Malt
5 lbs Wheat Malt
1 lb Rye Malt
1 lb Wheat, Torrified
4 oz Honey Malt
1 lb Rice Hulls

Total grain: 13.750 lb

Hops

.5 oz Amarillo 60 min
.5 oz Amarillo 10 min
.5 oz Amarillo 5 min

4 Sweet Oranges, Peels grated @ 5 min
 
TBH I'm not sure 1lb of rye would be a noticeable change in the flavor/mouthfeel with that much wheat already in the beer. I would considering upping it to 50/50 wheat/rye to better see what it brings to the table.
 
I'm actually brewing my own version of this tomorrow. I'm using 30% rye and only 1lb of two-row. I'm using wheat extract on this one to avoid worrying about a stuck mash.
 
I'm doing this as well. My recipe is:

3.5 lbs Wheat
2.5 lbs Pilsner
.5 Lbs Rye
.25 lb Crystal 10
3068
Noble hops.

I'm curious to see how it'll taste. Although I doubt the rye will have much effect on the overall character. It's only like 8% of the grain bill.

This is for a 3.5 gallon batch btw.
