I brewed my first all grain batch about a month ago - a Hefeweizen. Everything went great and I got a starting gravity of 1.039. Maybe a little low, but good for the first try. The color was a little off though; it was a brownish yellow instead of a good solid yellow. Now that everything is bottled the color is a muddy sandy brown that doesn't look too good to drink. Any ideas? This was from a kit from MoreBeer! if that helps.

ps - I'm not trying to say that this is MoreBeer!'s fault, just providing as much info as possible. :)

Beer color can be darkened by the boil, if you boil really hard it can cause the wort to darken. Also the water can darken the beer. I'm guessing you ordered the grain crushed already, but if you used a corona mill that can darken it too. Just some ideas.

I've seen that muddy brown color in a hefe before. I had kegged it and for the first few days it poured that color. After a few days it dropped and cleared up into a nicer color. How long has it been bottled?

It's been bottled for 2 weeks now. Maybe it just needs a little more time. I used distilled water, so I don't think the water had anything to do with it. Thanks for the help!
