heated stir plate

I plan to make a stir plate but I have a question: Is there any benefit to making a heated stir plate to aid in the yeast propagation of a starter? If so, what would the optimum temperature be for the yeast starter?

Somewhere around 75-80 works well. You only need to heat the stir plate if it is located in a cool or cold area. You can easily warm it with a low wattage infra red bulb or a reptile heating pad from a pet shop. I've done it both ways. I have the stir plate in my unheated garage so I sometimes need to warm it up a bit. The 75 watt infra red heat lamp is housed in one of those cheap clamp on reflector work lights for easy mounting and positioning. You could do the same thing with an ordinary light bulb. I just happened to have the infra red bulb laying around.
