So I've procured a very suitable full sized Sweetwater keg that's just begging to be turned into a boil kettle. I'm perfectly willing to go with the 4.5" grinder from Harbor Freight to open this baby up if need be but I hear that a plasma cutter in the hands of a knowledgeable operator is infinitely quicker. I was wondering if you fine folks know of such a person in the greater ATL area. I'd be more than willing to trade a few of my recent chocolate milk stouts for the service. OR, if anyone knows of a shop that would do it for a reasonable fee that would be helpful also. Thanks all.

Got it cut yet?
No plasma cutter, but I have a nice fixture for cutting keg tops out, using a high speed grinder, and I like milk stouts.......

I'm on the South Side, in Hampton, Ga.,( like it says under my screen name there..........:D )

Where are you?

Edit: Unless you fill that keg with water before taking a plasma cutter to it, you won't be happy with the looks of it inside when you are done, and I'd bet a dime to a donut the hole will not be concentric .

"Will cut round hole for beer".

I do have it cut but probably not near as nice looking as that jig would have made it look. Thanks anyway. I'll look you up next time I need one cut.

@Stealthcruiser, I just plasma'd two kegs open and it does leave a mess inside. But a little bkf fixes that right up. Also, my circle skills are nearly perfect. The force is strong with this one!

Your cutoff jig is the fanciest I have seen. I bet that works really well.

True, a plasma cutter is faster than a grinder, but once you factor in driving over to the plasma cutter the grinder is going to win on time. Of course if you make totally junk cuts you'll spend a few hours grinding it down, but if you do it right/take your time on the cut, then your grinding/flap wheel time will be minimal (5-10min)
