Has Sabro ruined my beer?

Not much love for sabro here. I brewed a NEIPA with 2.5 oz sabro and 1.5 Idaho gem all in the whirlpool. It was unique for sure but I was a fan. I served it at a party along with 5 other beers and the keg emptied very quickly.
Could've just been the "free beer" effect...

I think sabro can be good in small amounts, even if it's the majority of your hop bill. If you only used 2.5 oz during whirlpool then that's probably why you had a good experience with it. I think once you start using it in larger amounts (especially when dry hopping), that's when the weird cedar, cream, coconut, suntan lotion starts to dominate.

i was a fan the first time around, but after discovering how easily it got out of hand, I decided not to use it anymore. I recently brewed the same recipe, but subbed my sabro additions for bru-1 and that was amazing. One if my favorite NEIPA's that I've made to date. I think you have to be careful with too much bru-1 as well, but I really enjoyed it in place of sabro. Lots of dank pineapple and stone fruit. It has a little creamy coconut aroma/flavor in there too, but it blends well. Certainly not like what sabro did.
