Has anyone ever created/marketed an app?

The wife and I have a great idea for one (we think) but we have no idea where to start. I think I would like it to link with facebook.

While making a free app for the use of my adoring friends is tempting... I think I would rather see if I can make some money off it.

Any resources someone can suggest?

I've dabbled in Android app development and have a background as a hobbyist programmer. I'm not necessarily saying I have the skills to help you out with this, but I am confident I could help get you going in the right direction. If you're looking to do this yourself you should Google "android app development" and the first link should be to the Android developer's site. If you're trying to do this for iPhone I've got no info for you, sorry.
