This was my first year growing my own hops. My brother in law sent me some rhizomes from his mature plants and they grew OK with about a pound (wet weight) between the three plants.

Harvest is over now and I want to know when I should cut the bines back and how close to the ground to cut them. Also, should I do any thing for them over the winter? I'm in San Diego so freezing isn't an issue.

Leave the vines until the leaves begin to yellow. They will continue to photosynthesize and help the plant store nutrients for next year.

I wouldn't cut them if I was in San Diego. I'm just starting to get more flowers on my vines in chicago, and I've got a whole lot less year left than you, so you might get a second harvest.

My San Diego plants are still growing. I would keep watering them like usual since its been hot and then cold over the last couple weeks. Tet and Cascade are pretty much done, but my Northern Brewer is still growing and producing hops.
