I had one of mine cut with a plasma cutter and the other one I did with an angle grinder. I ended up liking the results I did with the angle grinder better.

It took a little longer, but it was more accurate in my opinion.
 
Yeah, I cut mine with a 4" cutoff wheel on my grinder. Actually, I used a wheel that was worn down to about 2.5" diameter and it actually hugged the curve well for a 12" hole. Get a loop of string and throw it over the valve neck, use a sharpie marker on the other end of the loop to make a perfect circle.

Look for a place to use a plasma cutter, you will get a much better result. Just call around to some shops and ask if they will do it.

You don't want the sabre saw, trust me.
 
ok. got the top off. very ugly, but now i need my 7/8" hole for my weldless fittings.....any suggestions?
