Nope they don't come with one. I just keep a paper towel folded into a square over the lens when I'm storing it.

I think better is a relative term. I appreciate using the electronic reader for speed, easy of use, and cleaning. Plus, with a digital read out there is no guessing between hash lines and from poor focus.

If none of that matters to your brewing process then it is not "better".

Cheers!!

I think the question is why is the new one you replaced this electric one with better?

I don't know the answer to their question, but I do know these things are awesome!

I have the Milwaukee version (green) and love it. I believe it's the same style as this one. I bought mine gently used on hbt. Never an issue and always spot on.

I store mine in the box with a little piece of glasses cloth (kinda silky) over the lens... 'cus I'm fancy like that. Lol!

$125 isn't ideal, but an acceptable price. It registers in brix, so you'll need to convert it... which is another awesome thing you can do with a smart phone. It is a pretty handy piece of equipment and I definitely recommend it. ;)

Sorry for the late reply. The one I purchased is just a little more accurate I would say, but it also came along with a way heavier price tag. Rather than reading the sugars like the Hanna/Milwaukee etc, it reads brix based off the sucrose in the wort, the one I bought reads the dissolved solids which provides for a more accurate reading. The one I have reads brix and also gives me a SG reading. I still have to use an online calculator once fermentation starts, but I have compared two samples against my hydrometer and they were dead on.

The Hanna is also accurate but I wanted to upgrade and try something different out. I'm weird like that..I don't even want to say how much I have spent in upgrading/downgrading/trying out different beer equipment has cost me...lol

Forgot to mention, these digital ones are super nice. They only require a few drops vs a hydrometer tube full of wort. They are both more accurate vs the handheld one I bought that likes to change around on me while I'm looking through it.

So it's a densitometer, not a refractometer? These refractometers measure the refractive index.
