The dip tube in my corny keg was a bit too long and I had to cut a little off the end. I used a hack saw and it didn't turn out all too even. Now I'm worried about the metal rusting. I don't know what the deal is with that stuff, but I remember reading that there are certain things you can do to stainless that will make it rust.

I'm going to file it down and smooth it out, but is there anything else I should do to it before I use it again?

Not sure what to do to the tube, but I am a bit confused as to why you needed to shorten it. Is it a replacement? Or a tube from a keg from a different manufacturer?

I don't know why it was too long, but it would press down into that dimple at the bottom of the keg. I had to tighten the post down on it and it would restrict the flow of the keg. It probably is a different tube than the original and is just a bit too long. It works perfectly now that I've shortened the tube, I'm just worried about rusting now.
