i had a brook and branch double ipa citra. it was good . but i didnt care for the haze. i googled a recipe and it seemed to intimate that 1 whole pound of hops was called for mostly at the whirlpool stage. that really shocked me as i usually go with 3- 4 oz hops max in my beers per 5 gallons.

2 questions:
1 can i make a hoppy citrus pale beer without the haze and what would that be. american pale ipa?
2 if i just add a ton of hops in the whirlpool will i get to where i want to be?

i am thinking 4- 5 percent pale very citrusy

Yea there’s a lot to unpack about what you might like in an IPA and several key decisions to make regarding recipe. Did you like the in your face fruitiness / citrus, did you like the lower bitterness, did you like the softer mouthfeel and fuller body?

i have several pounds of pilsner and a bunch of mosaic mandarina, huell melon, and pacifica . i want to make a kitchen sink ipa. pale crisp smooth citrusy . 4-5 percent . golden in color, not syrupy thick . i already do closed transfers i am hoping just a ton of whirlpool hops will get me citrus face slap.

I freeking hate dry hopping! I put 4-6 ozs in whirlpool for 20-30 min. This gets me a pale ale. You really need the dry hop to get to IPA. That being said I read about dip hopping but you can't in a PET carboy, so I added 2 ozs to my Big Mouth then transferred wort,pitched yeast and oxygenated. I use Voss and it was settled out in 2 weeks,kegged and on tap by the 4 week mark. My best IPA to date and will be perfecting an SOP for the future. The hop creep happened and took it to 1.000 so dry and not much malt back bone. Exbeeriments await!
 
A pound for a 5 gallon batch? Now, that seems very very high in my opinion. I did a Citra IPA that I think took maybe 4 to 5 ounces total. Maybe 6 but not much more. The Treehouse IPA I am thinking of trying uses Cryo hops and even that converted is less than a half pound I think. Seems like a lot, but you certainly will get a slap in the face of hop flavor that way I would think. Keep us posted.

I want to brew a pale that's pretty much what you're shooting for, I think. In the thread @bailey mountain brewer referenced above I dropped this post. Change the hops to something you prefer and I think this would be what you're looking for.
 
I doubt the haze is the thing you don't like. It's probably the other characteristics that tend to come along with it such as the extra body. Have you had a Fiddlehead IPA? Green and white can.

This beer is just about the perfect IPA in my opinion.
Yeah, it's hazy, but it's not like most. It has the same balance as Kane's Head High but more pine/dank than fruity.

I'm a huge Fiddlehead IPA fan so if I'm actually buying beer that's what I look for first. And it's only $20 for a 12 pack here...
