Bottled my Heffinweisen the other day and got my first gusher I had already opened about three with no problem . ? What causes this ? Over priming ?

I only get gushers if I do not refrigerate first. If I open a bottle off fermentation it gushes something horrible.

Did you mix your priming sugar with water and pour into bottling bucket or did you prime each bottle?

I mixed with water and poured it in

over priming and infections can certainly cause a gusher, but more often it's an uneven priming and/or not enough time cold conditioning. Did you rack on top of your priming mixture or did you dump it on top of your beer? If the latter, did you stir gently? How about refrigeration; how long did you let the bottles chill for?

The only time that I have had gushers over the years is by not chilling the bottle beer long enough. In my early batches I was over eager and tried a bottle or two within 24 hours of beginning the chilling process. A few times I had "delayed gushers." One time in particular I notice more yeast and debris settled at the bottom of the bottle that seemed to contribute to over carbonation. Bottles from the same batches were left in the cooler for weeks and were perfectly carbonated.

Thanks for all the help . I figured it out , I was bottling my last bottle it wasn't quite full , looked in bottling bucket. Their was some left in their . I forgot I sprayed bottling bucket with sanitizer after filling last bottle . So it would clean easier . Sorry my bad ! But thanks . I learned any way. The other bottles have been fine. Cheers :)
