Everything was going great with my brew today. Got it into the primary, put on the lid, sealed it, then went to shove the ferm. lock into the little hole on the plastic lid with the sealer ring and PLOP the sealer ring pushes down into the brew. I pop the lid open and it must've sank like a stone.

I'm not too worried as it should be quite sanitary after soaking in the sanitizing solution for a few hours, but I'm worried about the seal around the ferm lock. It seems to be tight, I guess I'll know when this puppy kicks into high gear during fermentation.

I've always put the airlock into the lid before putting the lid on the fermenter. Had one break off a couple months ago while inserting. Little bits of plastic all over the floor, but not in the wort.

Now, if only you could do that with glass carboys...

David,

As soon as it happened, that's exactly what I thought, "Man, I should have put the fermentation lock onto the lid before sealing it."

You learn something new everytime you brew. What a great hobby!

Luckily, it seems as the seal is holding because I'm getting some good fermentation lock activity only 4 hours after pitching the yeast.
