So it seems to me that based upon a cost benefit analysis, a growler isn't worth it unless you keg beer and need a transport vessel. (costs being bottle bombs and/or flat beer, benefits being a few less bottles to bottle.)

So, what to do with a growler? I never made Meade and plan on making it. Is it good for Meade?

I can't get a 5 cent deposit on it so maybe I should just recycle these things?
 
I use the 3 growlers I own to get local beer from my brewery or craft beer friendly restaurant. Check around, some (if not all) Mellow Mushroom's do it.
