Growler reuse

I have several growlers from the local brew pub that have plastic screw on tops. Will these seal well enough for reuse with my homebrew?

We buy the black plastic caps like these:

They work great for us. The regular caps that came with the growlers are generally pathetic.

Are you talking about attempting to bottle carb and condition a beer in a growler, or transfering already carbed KEGGED beer in them, like at a brew pub?

This might be the answer to the former....This might give you an idea...."Growler goes Boom"

There's a tons of threads on this. You have to realize that they are meant to hold already carbonated beer, NOT beer carbonating, where the pressure is built up the forces itself into solution. Some folks will say they have no problem, but others will say differently. To me, I sure as heck wouldn't want to play Russian Roulette with my beer.

In a word, yes. However, don't bottle condition (carbonate) in a growler. I've busted a few growlers doing that. They're not meant to hold pressure like a standard beer bottle.

You can also get some spare caps from your local brewery.
