Hello everyone,

I'm completely new to home brewing... I got a starter kit from Norther Brewer and their Caribou slobber ingredient kit. Following their directions I came out with something I can say I like. But I think it was just dumb luck. I have been surfing all kinds of sites to get more info and start to understand some of the process instead of just following the directions. Well mostly following.

I am definitely hooked.

Sweet. Who do you get your supplies from? I went up to ebrew/Alternative Beverage up near the airport in Charlotte 2 weekends ago to get bottles for my first batch. Nice guys.

Welcome and I am located in Monroe, NC. I usually hit up the B&W Hobby shop on South Blvd or the B&W Hobby shop in Monroe NC. The guys shop in Monroe is well kept albeit small and he is a really great owner.
The one on South Blvd is more of a self service shop grain-wise (You pull and weigh out your own grain). They even offer a small discount if you mill it yourself which is nice.

Either store is great but I have gotten a more friendly experience when I am needing advice from the Monroe location.

The main warehouse for Alternative Beverage is in Belmont NC and I hate that place. Too much microbrewer traffic and it seemed like I was getting looked over for the bigger buy customers. Only been there once and I will not be back as it was literally 45 minutes before someone acknowledged I was visible and needed help.

Definitely the store in Monroe. He does help out with the grain. Being your own bucket and get the same discount. Plenty of brewmaster kits and other supplies.

Welcome to the hobby, and the group, from CO :mug:

Get into a local club or pub, this is most fun when sharing brews and stories with like minded folks.

Good advice all. Thanks! I will find time to check out the shop in Monroe, its not to far from me.

I just stumbled across the website for The Carolina Brewmasters. I will try to check out their next meeting. Sounds like a big club, just right for a bunch of noob questions. :D

I'm wondering if I may be jumping in too fast. I was thinking of getting a biab kit for my next batch....but will have to get a bigger kettle. Unless anyone has added water after mashing? It is mashing right?

Hi there and welcome to the addiction. I am in Ft Mill. I belong to to Carolina Brewmasters. It's a great club and they are passionate about newbies and extremely knowledgeable. While I do not participate often, the monthly meetings are a great place to get info. They also host a monthly brew session. I'll echo the sentiment above, South Blvd is OK, Belmont is OK, I have never been to Monroe location.
As far as BIAB: Yes it is mashing and you do not have to mash with full volume. Meaning you can add water after removing the bag. I'd pour it through the bag, now you're sparging!

I brew often (AG) and welcome folks to come watch, imbibe and assist...

Cheers :mug:
