Hello Everyone,

I am a big time rookie... Just finished my very first batch, and now that it is bottled it occurred to me to ask a question...

I have read a few of the posts regarding head space when bottling, but I don't think I saw a definitive answer.
I apologize in advance if I misread the posts.

Does it Matter if you have to much air in the bottle?
Does it affect:
The beer?
The flavor?
Carbonation?
Fermentation?

Again I apologize in advance if i missed the post.

Thank you

Dino

Congrats on your first batch, in general bottles with more head space can carbonate quicker, but other than that there is no other effects. if you have a half inch of space it will be fine and if it is a inch and a half it will be fine. :mug:

Sweet thank you, most of the bottles have 1 - 1 1/2 inch head space, mt concern was around the ones that have more than 1 inch some as much as 2 - 3 inches of head space not many but a few.

A trick to filling bottles and having the optimal headspace is put your wand in the bottle, it obviously hits the bottom. You fill until the beer reaches the very top of the bottle. Remove the wand and you have a perfectly filled beer. ;)

And welcome.
